About us
Who Are We?
We are a Soulaan organization led by a board and active members. We serve as one of the many frontline Soulaan institutions representing our people politically, culturally, and spiritually. We hold ourselves to a higher standard as a reflection of our community’s dignity and excellence. Our mission is to innovate, preserve, and broadcast the remnants of our heritage to the world, showcasing the uniqueness and contributions of the Soulaan people as a distinct ethnicity.

What Is “Soulaan”?
Soulaan is an ethnic designator that defines Black American heritage by meaning not by color or region.
It was created to replace the oppressive and externally imposed term “African American,” which incorrectly ties us to a continent that we are not from.
The term Soulaan means “Soul Autochthonous Americans,” referring to the melanated people native to the mainland United States, those whose ancestors were recognized as soulful people. That soulful identity became the foundation of our name, our expression, and our way of life.
The word Soulaan was founded by three individuals — Maroc, Dwayne, and T-Roy — respected pillars in their communities and active contributors to cultural awareness, historical preservation, and identity building.

Is Replacing “African American” a Good Move for the Culture?
The term African American, Black and other color-based labels are misnomers that fails to accurately describe who we are as a people.
We are an amalgamation of ancestral lineages that have forged a unique culture, phenotype, and genetic identity distinct from any other group.
Many of our ancestors were native to this land long before modern colonial settlements. Others arrived through complex migrations, including Africans, Black Europeans, and other melanated peoples who came early in the colonial era. Together, they formed the foundation of what we now call Soulaan heritage.
As members of the Soulaan Nation, we do not debate or dismiss separate historical lineages. All are respected. Our purpose is to unify, progress, and reclaim full possession of our history, heritage, and cultural identity.

What’s the Difference Between the Soulaan Flag and the Soulaan Nation Flag?
The Soulaan Flag represents all Soulaan people across the mainland United States. Those who share this heritage and identity regardless of membership.
The Soulaan Nation Flag, however, represents official members of the Soulaan organization—those who actively serve, build, and stand on the front lines for the Soulaan people as a collective.
Non-members may wear or display the Soulaan Nation Flag to show solidarity or cultural connection, but it ultimately signifies official membership and commitment within the organization.
